China’s Envoy: Lack of ‘Two State Solution’ Drives the Present Crisis

The Chinese envoy to the Middle East Zhai Jun spoke with Osama Khedr, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Assistant Minister of Palestinian Affairs today: “We oppose and condemn actions that harm civilians and call for an immediate ceasefire. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict continues in cycles, and the crux is still the delay in resolving the Palestinian issue justly. The fundamental solution lies in the implementation of the ‘two-state solution.’ The international community should make practical efforts to promote the ‘two-state solution’ with the greatest sense of urgency.”

Zhai said that China is willing to maintain communication and coordination with Egypt, promote for both Israeli and Palestinian parties to the conflict to cease fire and stop violence as soon as possible; and to promote the international community to form a joint force for humanitarian support to the Palestinian people and prevent the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, especially in Gaza, from worsening.
