Col. Douglas Macgregor (ret.) was interviewed by Tucker Carlson last night. Carlson first showed a video of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R- SC) calling for the bombing of Iran’s oil rigs, as the key to stabilize the area. Macgregor explained that there really was a Russia that has been impelled to upgrade its military production and readiness, and that Russia was not in a mood to sit and watch the U.S. bombing Iran. Later, he explained that the closing of the Straits of Hormuz and/or the Suez Canal are an easy first possibility for wreaking untold harm to what remains of the West’s economy, an economy with Americans struggling with inflation, and a $33 trillion debt hanging over their heads.
The 27-minute presentation is worth watching. Of some note, Macgregor usefully mentioned the bad planning of the U.S. military into the Eastern Mediterranean, given the Russians’ ability to deploy its hypersonic Kinzhal missile from the Black Sea. He noted the same sort of diseased thinking that has left Ukraine devastated, along with half a million corpses, is behind the “fight to the last Israeli” policy. He asked, “Do we really want the same for Israel?”
He said that people should listen to Jordan’s King Abdullah II, who pointedly called out the “collective punishment” of the Gaza population, when speaking at the Cairo Peace Conference on Oct. 21. With some irony, he pointed out that, for the first time in his long life, Israel has accomplished the historic feat of uniting the fractious Sunni and Shi’a strains of Islam.
Though he made no mention of the peace mobilizations of China and Brazil, he did suggest taking up the mediation offer of Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he described as someone the Sunnis look up to, and someone who has a credible military not far from Israel.
