McCarthyite Censorship in U.S. Against Those Not Backing the Israeli Line

Much as the 9/11 terror incident was used to justify U.S. foreign wars and attempt to impose a fascist dictatorship domestically, the pro-war Establishment is now trying to use the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and Israel’s war on the population of Gaza to silence all opposition—liberally spewing charges of “anti-Semitism” against anyone, including Jews, who calls for a ceasefire.

One such case was AP’s report that the 92nd Street Y cultural center in Manhattan had cancelled a reading by Pulitzer Prize author Viet Thanh Nguyen, because he had joined more than 700 other writers in signing an open letter published in the London Review of Books urging for a ceasefire in Gaza. The open letter of authors reads in part: “We can only express our grief and heartbreak for the victims of these most recent tragedies, and for their families, both Palestinians and Israelis. But the unprecedented and indiscriminate violence that is still escalating against the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, with the financial and political support of Western powers, can and must be brought to an end.”
