Rep. Steve Scalise, a Kevin McCarthy ally, won the nomination of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives this morning, by a vote of 113, against Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan’s 99, to be House Speaker. The vote was held behind closed doors. The vote on the House floor between Scalise and the Democratic caucus candidate, Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (who has no chance, being in the minority, of winning), was expected to be called for 3 p.m. today. But around 7 p.m., the word went out: no vote today.
