Catherine Colonna, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, told France Info on Wednesday, Oct. 11 that the creation of a Palestinian state is “the only solution, in our view, that will ensure that both peoples [Israelis and Palestinians] live in peace and security for the long term.”
“When the time comes, we’ll have to get back to work to recreate solutions that will enable political dialogue to restore a political horizon and, if possible, bring about peace,” Minister Colonna continued, recalling that, for the time being, the “indispensable” objective is “to avoid conflagration” in the region.
Colonna also emphasized that any discussions on a two-state solution would have to include “all Palestinians.” “It would be a mistake to confuse Hamas with the entire Palestinian population. The Palestinian Authority exists, and it must be strengthened,” she stressed.
