Israel Destroys Refugee Camp in Gaza, with 100 Dead and 400 Wounded

The Gazan Interior Ministry spokesman Iad Al Bozem, in a widely circulated video, described the destruction of a large section of the Jabalya refugee camp in north Gaza, hit by six “U.S.-made” bombs, leaving craters where the apartment buildings once stood. He reported that 100 had been killed and 400 injured, with an unknown number under the rubble unable to be rescued for lack of heavy equipment to free them. Video shots showed people digging through the rubble with their hands, searching for survivors or dead bodies.

The IDF claimed that the bombing killed Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari, said to be responsible for the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, in addition to “several other terrorists.” But Hamas denied that any of its leaders were in the camp and accused the IDF of a “heinous crime against safe civilians, children and women in Jabalya camp,” CNN reported. Eyewitnesses describe the effects of the bombing as “catastrophic.”

The nearby Indonesian Hospital (constructed with donations from Indonesian individuals and organizations) is struggling to treat the wounded, but has little capacity or supplies.
