Israeli Journalist Demands To Know, How Can the World ‘Stand on the Side and Do Nothing’ To Stop the Slaughter?

Amira Hass, correspondent with Haaretz, gave an interview to Amy Goodman of Democracy Now on Oct. 19. Hass, an Israeli Jew who has lived in Gaza for 30 years and covers it as a journalist, spoke passionately about the situation on the ground there and demanded action now to stop the killing. Hass was in New York during the interview. Below are excerpts of her interview—her words speak for themselves:

“We share common feelings of grief, of fear, for the people that we know and we love; of mourning for the people we know and we love, both Jews and Palestinians. People can be emotional and rational. People who can be appalled by the events of Oct. 7, and at the same time say history did not begin with Oct. 7….

“The words that I need don’t exist in our dictionaries to describe the horror that my friends in Gaza are now going through.
