No New House Speaker Until at Least Oct. 11; Trump Will Attend Meeting

U.S. House of Representatives Republicans will hold meetings Monday night Oct. 9, and Oct. 10-11, beginning to hold votes to nominate a new Speaker of the House on that last day, Oct. 11. Interim Speaker Patrick McHenry (R-VA) is not likely to attempt to introduce anything regarding military aid to Ukraine while this process goes on, no matter what President Joe Biden may demand or propose to do in his national speech. If McHenry did take any such initiative he would likely be “vacated” from the Speaker’s chair, as his role is supposed to be limited to organizing the process of nominating a new Speaker.

This morning former President Donald Trump strongly endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker, praising Jordan on various issues but failing to mention the NATO war which Trump campaigns against, while Jordan wants to end U.S. arming of Ukraine.

There are various reports suggesting that Trump will attend the Tuesday meeting of Republican Representatives, which will be addressed by candidates for Speaker.

Jordan and the other announced candidate for Speaker, Rep. Steven Scalise (R-LA), have both been closely allied with the just-ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
