Mitch McConnell is on a crusade to pass the $105 billion war budget that the Biden Administration has asked for. “This is a moment for swift and decisive action to prevent further loss of life, and to impose real consequences on the tyrants who have terrorized the people of Ukraine and of Israel,” he declared during an event at the University of Louisville while introducing Oksana Markarova, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S., The Hill reported yesterday. “Right now, the Senate has a chance to produce supplemental assistance that will help us do exactly that,” McConnell said. “Enemies abroad will be watching closely and waiting for America to falter. Only our concrete and credible support can deter our adversaries in the future and restore security.”
In the process he invented a new “Axis of Evil,” made up of Russia, China and Iran. “So this is not just a test for Ukraine. It is a test for the United States and from the free world. And the path toward greater security for all of us is simple: Help Ukraine win the war.”
For her part, Markarova is making yet another pitch for more long-range missiles. The missiles sent by the Biden administration, which carry cluster munitions (the ATACMS missiles), “have been very effective” so far, she told Bloomberg News on Oct. 27. “They make a difference on the battlefield and the more we can get the better we can prepare the battlefield.” The version sent has a range of 160 kilometers (99 miles) to 165 kilometers, and although “It’s very good,” Ukraine needs “more of these and hopefully longer-range,” she said.
