A number of organizations representing thousands of American Jews and other demographic groups have teamed up to launch a “Week of Action” using civil disobedience to demand an immediate ceasefire, and to halt Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza. Using the X platform under the hashtag #JewsForCeasefire to organize activities, some of the groups include IfNotNow (@IfNotNowOrg), Jewish Voice for Peace (@jvplive) and Never Again Action (@NeverAgainActn).

On Monday, Nov. 13 during the morning rush hour, hundreds of protesters gathered at the Israeli Consulate in Chicago to demand an immediate ceasefire. According to the Times of Israel, people came from Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois to participate in the demonstration. Protesters inside of Ogilvie Station, one of Chicago’s main transportation hubs, blocked the escalators leading to the entrance of the Consulate, which is connected to the station. Over 100 people were arrested for trespassing according to various news outlets. Many of the protesters gathered on the sidewalk outside the station and in a video posted on X can be heard beautifully singing in Hebrew a prayer, from the Book of Isaiah.
