Former Obama Advisor Suggests Biden Might Want To Reconsider Running in 2024

On Sunday, Nov. 5, David Axelrod, the former chief strategist for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, and subsequently his senior advisor once he was President, suggested on X, that Joe Biden might want to reconsider running for reelection, RT reported. Axelrod’s comments provoked a sharp response from Biden’s team, with whom relations are generally tense, but he did not walk back any of what he said in interviews the following day. Given his history, Axelrod should be considered to be speaking for Obama.

In his initial X posting, Axelrod was commenting on the implications of the Oct. 23 New York Times/Siena College poll showing Donald Trump ahead of Biden in five of the six key swing states. Of course, he said, this is a decision only Biden can make. “If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise, whether it’s in his best interest or the country’s.” According to RT, 71% of the respondents in that poll said Biden is too old to run again and 62% said he lacks the mental acuity for the job.
