Chinese Mideast Envoy in Ankara, after Riyadh and Amman

China’s Mideast Envoy Zhai Jun was in Ankara, Türkiye on Nov. 13, where he met with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Later in the day the two joined in a video meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in which discussions centered on the Gaza crisis and humanitarian aid, reported Hurriyet Daily News.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry, at his meeting with Fidan, “Zhai Jun highlighted the three pressing tasks. First, stop the fighting as soon as possible and prevent the situation from further deteriorating or even spiraling out of control; second, urge parties related to the conflict to strictly abide by international humanitarian law, do their utmost to protect civilians, and prevent a wider range of humanitarian disaster; third, the international community should redouble diplomatic efforts to bring the crisis back to the track of political settlement.

Remarking that Türkiye has major influence in Southwest Asia and is a major Islamic country, Zhai further said that “China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Türkiye, and make joint efforts to promote a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.
