Chinese To Aid in Rehabilitation of Nigerian Refugees

The Nigerians and the Chinese have signed an agreement which will lead to a broad effort to relocate and rehabilitate Nigerian refugees that have fled the terror attacks of Boko Haram. This involved the Nigerian North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Mutual Commitment Group (MCG), a Chinese construction company, which have signed a memorandum of understand to support the ongoing Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR) efforts to resettle millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other victims affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The agreement was made on Nov. 1 at a meeting between NEDC Chairman Maj. Gen. General Paul Tarfa (ret.). Additionally, the newly reconstituted board members were also present, including the Management Team of MCG, Managing Director Mr. Long Liu.

The “Main Areas of Collaboration Outlines in the IDP Rehabilitation and Reconstruction MOU” calls for collaboration in a wide range of sectors, including renewable energy and power generation, healthcare, education, agriculture, and road construction, job creation, poverty alleviation, as well as rehabilitation and resettlement efforts.
