CORRECTION: No U.S. Nuclear-Armed Submarines Publicly Deployed to Southwest Asia

The U.S. has not deployed “one very public nuclear-armed submarine” to Southwest Asia as the briefing lead incorrectly reported yesterday. The submarine at issue is the USS Florida, which is nuclear powered, but conventionally armed with up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles, armed with conventional warheads. There may, indeed, be nuclear armed missiles aimed at the region, but if so, that hasn’t been announced—and is unlikely to be.
