New Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has dramatically expanded the January 6, 2021 video footage available to the public, with an online “reading room,” where viewers can see footage from cameras located around and within the Capitol. While some of the footage includes the violent struggles broadcast years ago, some of the footage supports the contention of protesters charged with the crime of being present in the building, that they were allowed in and did not know their presence was illegal. Some of the footage (around 10%) is deemed to contain sensitive material, and those interested in seeing it must come in person to a room set up for such viewing.
