Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s Strategic Partnership with China during a two-day official visit to Beijing. On Nov. 3, he met with China’s Premier Li Qiang, and afterward held a meeting with President Xi Jinping.
In his meeting with Li, Mitotakis presented a formal statement on the good relations between the two countries and prospects for the future. In the meeting with President Xi, these points were elaborated. Xi stressed that both countries are partners in jointly building the Belt and Road, have enjoyed sound development and sustained growth since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than half a century ago, and are now building a strong, comprehensive strategic partnership. Xi said that China is prepared to deepen cooperation in the fields of transportation, shipping, energy, communications, and Belt and Road cooperation, and to push for the long-term development of the Piraeus port. In culture, China supports mechanisms such as the Center for Chinese and Greek Ancient Civilizations and the Ancient Civilizations Forum.
On China-EU relations, Xi said they “cannot be achieved without independence, mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation,” and expressed the hope “that Greece will continue to play a constructive role in this regard.”
