Russia Will Start Building a Space Station in 2027 Putin Says

In a visit to the headquarters of Energia in the Moscow Region city of Korolyov, on Oct. 26, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would send up the first part of a Russian space station in 2027. While Russia and the U.S. are still involved in the International Space Station, it is reaching the end of its lifespan and both are looking for alternatives. But Russia has agreed with the U.S. to maintain its essential role in the ISS until 2028.

Putin also indicated that Russia would continue in its plans for lunar exploration in spite of the failure of the Luna-25 mission. As a result, Roscosmos is considering launching the next Luna-26 mission already in 2026 rather than the scheduled date of 2027. It will be another orbital mission, which will be followed by Luna-27, which will be a lunar lander.
