Russian Pacific Fleet Ships Visit India’s Military Port

Sputnik reported yesterday that a “detachment of warships of Russia’s Pacific Fleet has arrived in the Indian port of Visakhapatnam on a business visit as part of the trip aimed at demonstrating and popularizing the Russian naval flag in the region,” according to a statement from the Russian Pacific Fleet.

Visakhapatnam Port is one of 12 major working ports in India and the only major port in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is India’s third largest state-owned port by volume of cargo handled and largest on the Eastern Coast. It is one of the most important ports in India, and home to India’s Eastern Fleet; it hosted a welcoming ceremony for the Russian ships, with cultural and other events.
