In a wide-ranging interview with TASS published today, South Sudan’s Ambassador to Moscow Chol Tong Mayay Jang said that his country is considering joining the BRICS. “It is in the interest of the Republic of South Sudan to be a member of such an organization whereby the interests of a country are better served,” he pointed out. He added that “given the current geopolitical situation in the world, you see, there’s many people who see that BRICS may be the best option … even most of the allies from the Middle East, allies of the West, have already expressed interest to join BRICS.” He stressed that “Saudi Arabia, which is a very close ally to the U.S., is now a member of BRICS,” adding: “It means that there is something, which is making people now seek a refuge.”
He said his government must study this option and they it will apply for membership.
The ambassador, who was visiting Moscow, also invited Russian companies, including oil companies, to invest in South Sudan. “In fact, this cooperation, the oil, this is what we are offering to Russia,” the diplomat said. “That one is not a donation from Russia. These are the Russian companies that are going to invest. … South Sudan has opened its market to the Russian companies. Even up to the small and medium businesses.”
