Carnage in Gaza Continues; So, Too, Does the Danger of Regional Expansion of the War

As the death toll in Gaza exceeded 10,000 today, Israeli authorities announced that they had fully surrounded Gaza City and cut the Gaza Strip in half. After cutting all communications in the Strip on Nov. 5 for the third time, the IDF said they expect to start moving into Gaza City. Should that occur, the level of carnage can be expected to rise dramatically.

In the course of his shuttle diplomacy in the region, Secretary of State Tony Blinken has repeatedly rejected the idea of a ceasefire and warned, as he did at a news conference in Baghdad after meeting with Prime Minister Al Sudani, that “I made very clear that the attacks, the threats, coming from militia that are aligned with Iran are totally unacceptable.” Blinken added unconvincingly: “We’re not looking for conflict with Iran.”
