UN’s Griffith Reports on Gaza Visit, on ‘Dreadful Humanitarian’ Situation

After a visit to Israel and Gaza, UN humanitarian affairs chief Martin Griffiths said in a Nov. 1 statement that the crisis in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory is a global crisis. “Scores of civilians have reportedly been killed in Gaza following recent attacks on the Jabalia refugee camp,” he said. “This is just the latest atrocity to befall the people of Gaza where the fighting has entered an even more terrifying phase, with increasingly dreadful humanitarian consequences….

“In Gaza, women, children and men are being starved, traumatized and bombed to death. They have lost all faith in humanity and all hope of a future. Their despair is palpable. In the West Bank, the death toll is rising. Violence and the closure of checkpoints mean that people cannot access food, jobs, health care and other essential services.
