In what is clearly intended to create an environment of fear and paranoia, amidst a global strategic crisis, the Biden administration has enlisted the Justice Department, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to protect people from what the FBI is reporting as historically high levels of anti-Semitism appearing in schools, college campuses and on the streets. Citizens are also being encouraged to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities. The large university mobilizations of the past few weeks, denouncing Israel’s genocide in Palestine, and heightened awareness among the population of the insanity of U.S. foreign policy, obviously has the White House worried.
At yesterday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Karinne Jean-Pierre warned of anti-Semitic incidents in schools and college campuses, announcing these are being tracked and everything is being done to counter “terrorism,” which she linked to anti-Semitism. Jean-Pierre announced that the Biden administration is acting “to address this alarming rise” in anti-Semitism.
The DOJ and DHS are ensuring that campus law enforcement is engaged with state and local law enforcement to coordinate any responses. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby added that senior administration officials are meeting with Jewish leaders and universities to discuss the threat of anti-Semitism and “hate-filled violence” on campuses and Biden is having cybersecurity experts talk to campus police to track down anyone behind anti-Semitic threats.
CNN reported that in his testimony yesterday before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee yesterday, FBI Director Christopher Wray said that the threat of anti-Semitism is at “sort of historic levels,” and that the Jewish community is “targeted by terrorists across the spectrum,” including homegrown violent extremists, foreign terrorist organizations and domestic violent extremists. The FBI is tracking all this through law enforcement efforts that include joint terrorism task forces, hate crime investigations, and intelligence sharing.
Be vigilant, Wray warned. Don’t panic, go about your daily routine but be vigilant, and remember the expression “if you see something, say something … that’s never been more true than now.” He said the FBI is getting tips and leads from concerned citizens, all of which are being followed up, the Washington Post reported him saying.
