We have already reported about the collapse of the S&P Global Clean Energy Index. Another consequence of the bursting of the Green Bubble is the retreat of large automakers from the e-car frenzy because of poor sales. Not only has Volkswagen decided to stop producing two models, but also the European headquarters of Honda has confirmed to Electrive that the compact “Honda e” electric car can no longer be purchased on short order. The reason is likely to be the comparatively low sales figures. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, only two new Honda e models were registered in Germany in October—in the whole of 2023, there were only 101 models of the electric car.

The recent German government decision to stop subsidies to e-car purchasers because of fiscal constraints will make it worse.
