Chinese President Xi Jinping spent several days in Vietnam in separate meetings with the President of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong, with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and with the General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong. Xi underlined the important relationship between the two countries and their shared interest in continued socialist development. The leaders agreed to build a “China-Vietnam community of shared future that carries strategic significance” and underlined the long ties between the two nations. There is also an interest from China in building new rail links with Vietnam and one high-speed rail line has been built from Kunming to the port of Dongxing, one of several land ports on the border with Vietnam.
