The Israeli Foreign Ministry has recalled its ambassador in Madrid Rodica Radian-Gordon for consultations, and the Spanish ambassador in Israel was also summoned for a protest against remarks by Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. A week ago, he accused Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of the “indiscriminate killing” of Palestinian civilians and suggested that Madrid might recognize Palestinian statehood unilaterally. The same should be done by the EU, Sánchez insisted.
He made these comments at a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, at the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza.
