New Kiev Conscription Law Causing a Firestorm in Ukraine

As Ukraine is running out of soldiers to feed its war machine, the Verkhovna Rada has proposed new legislation which would reduce exemptions to youth and to the disabled. The proposal, which was registered on the evening of Dec. 25, introduces electronic summons, mobilization plans for individuals with disabilities, and military registration for those living abroad.

The legislation has to be reviewed by appropriate committees after which it will be put to a vote. The draft law introduces three-month basic military training for Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 25 and males between 18 and 60 would have to carry around a military registration document.
