Germany’s Scholz Blames Russia for High Energy Prices

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz blamed Russia for halting gas supplies to Europe amid rising energy costs, in his address yesterday at the Social Democratic Party congress in Berlin. He stated, according to Sputnik, that “Russia—yes, Russia has cut off the energy supply to Europe.... It was the Russian President who halted gas deliveries through a functioning pipeline!” RT reported that Scholz claimed: “It was the Russian President who stopped gas supplies through undamaged gas pipelines. Thus, 50% of Germany’s gas supply was called into question. 50 billion cubic meters of gas that went through them became inaccessible.”

Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and former Russian President, promptly explained that Scholz was simply “lying.”
