UN Arab Group Drafting a New Ceasefire Resolution

The 22-nation Arab Group at the United Nations is drafting a new ceasefire resolution to be presented to the UN Security Council according to the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram.

“The Arab Group is once again knocking on the doors of the Security Council, developing a resolution to cease fire immediately,” the Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Osama Abdel-Khalek said, calling on the UNSC to assume its responsibilities.

Abdel-Khalek said the group had held conversations in recent days with members of the Security Council, in which they demanded a mechanism for enhanced humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the full opening of crossings with an increase in the rate of humanitarian aid. The group will also meet with the Ecuadorian chairman of the UNSC.
