Following his meetings in Tel Aviv, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, where he lectured Abbas on the need for governance reform of the Palestinian Authority, though he has failed to provide any content on what should comprise the reform. The State Department readout of the meeting said only, “The Secretary had a productive discussion with President Abbas about administrative reforms, which, if implemented, would benefit the Palestinian people.”
According to the Palestinian readout, as reported by Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abbas was focused on ending the Israeli genocide not only in Gaza, but also in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Abbas warned against Israeli plans to displace the populations of all three areas, and vowed that “we will not allow it to happen.”
