Rolling into Hamburg with 550 tractors from five directions, farmers blocked access to the seaport and staged a protest rally at Dammtor Main station on Jan. 29, some of the blockades continuing on this morning. The issue is that many food items are imported into Germany by sea at prices not acceptable to German producers. The same issue is addressed in a blockade of the Jade-Weser deepwater seaport in Wilhelmshaven, the main entry for huge container ships to Germany. There the blockade has been in place since Jan. 26.
