Foreign Minister of Lebanon Abdallah Bou Habib met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the United Nations to express his hope that Moscow will “play an important role” in bringing a long-term peace to the region and avoiding escalation of the warfare.
“Now, it is difficult to talk about any peace process. … A war is currently being waged … and armed clashes with the Israeli army in southern Lebanon are taking place,” Bou Habib told Russian media following his discussion with Lavrov. “If there is any opportunity for peace, Russia will work towards establishing [it],” he insisted.
