President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. reiterated his country’s adherence to the one-China policy and said he does not endorse Taiwan independence.
Reuters reports that Marcos told an interviewer with the local GMA News TV that it was simply “common courtesy” that he called Lai Ching-te to congratulate him on his electoral victory in Taiwan. “The one-China policy remains in place,” Marcos insisted. “We are not endorsing Taiwan independence. Taiwan is a province of China.”
