Russia To End Britain’s Fishing in the Barents Sea, Putting Fish-and-Chips in Trouble

The all-important supply of fish for the staple of British restaurants, fish-and-chips, could be in trouble as Russia prepares to end a treaty with Great Britain which, since 1956, has allowed the British to fish in the Barents Sea. The Russian newspaper Izvestia has reported that Russia’s Minister of Agriculture has submitted draft legislation which would forbid them to fish for cod and haddock in the region. Sky News reports that 40% of British cod and haddock come from the Barents Sea.
