Turkish Parliament Approves Sweden’s Accession to NATO

The Turkish parliament approved Sweden’s entry into NATO yesterday. The vote was welcomed in Stockholm. “Today we are one step closer to becoming a full member of NATO,” Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on social media platform X, reported the Daily Sabah of Türkiye. “Positive that the Grand General Assembly of Türkiye has voted in favor of Sweden’s NATO accession.”

The protocol must now be voted by the full 600-seat General Assembly. If passed by Parliament, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will sign it into law. No problems are expected as Erdogan’s AKP party has the majority all the way through.
