The UN Security Council will be meeting next week on the Gaza war. The Wednesday, Jan. 31 meeting, AFP reported today, was called by Algeria, whose ministry of foreign affairs said it would give “binding effect to the pronouncement of the International Court of Justice on the provisional measures imposed on the Israeli occupation.”

“The Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations has received instructions from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to request a meeting of the Security Council as soon as possible to activate the ruling of the International Court of Justice on the provisional measures imposed on the Israeli occupation,” the statement read. Algeria believes that the ICJ’s ruling will mark the beginning of the end to the “era of impunity” in Israel’s actions against Palestine.
