Whistling Past the Graveyard: Wall Street Responds to ICJ Ruling

Much of the Western media made use of the boiler-plate phrase that the ICJ ruling “stopped short of calling for a ceasefire” to try to blunt the impact of the historic decision. But the Wall Street Journal takes the cake with its Jan. 26 piece headlined “World Court Rejects Demand for Gaza Ceasefire.” They stressed that “The International Court of Justice declined to order Israel to cease military operations in Gaza,” and that “the decision represented a rare win for Israel before a United Nations body and could act as a counterweight to the growing international opposition to its military campaign in Gaza.”
