The left-liberal Telepolis journal reports that, according to France’s INSEE statistics office, 18% of active farmers were living below the poverty line already in 2021; their average gross earnings amounted to €1,475, around €300 below the gross minimum wage for full-time work. The situation has grown worse, and of the 700,000 farmers officially listed, many have to work an outside job in order to make a living.
