Canada Refuses To Extradite Ex-Nazi Soldier Accused of War Crimes

Canada has refused to extradite to Russia former Ukrainian Nazi soldier Yaroslav Hunka, accused of war crimes against Jews and Poles, according to Sputnik, which cites a source in Russia’s Foreign Ministry, who explained: “Our request for extradition was formally rejected citing the absence of an extradition treaty between our countries.”

Last October, Hunka was charged in absentia by the Russian Investigative Committee with genocide of civilians during World War II. He is accused of participating, as a member of the SS Division Galicia of the Waffen-SS, in large-scale executions of no fewer than 500 civilians in the Lvov region of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1943-1944.
