Wall Street’s lead publication, the Wall Street Journal, published a swinish and inflammatory opinion column on Feb. 2 headlined “Welcome to Dearborn, America’s Jihad Capital,” demanding U.S. intelligence agencies launch a large-scale counterterrorism assault on Dearborn, Michigan, seeking to set an example for a nationwide crackdown against opposition to U.S.’s complicity in Israel’s genocide against Gaza.
The author was Steven Stalinsky, Executive Director of the Middle East Media Research Institute. The MEMRI is a joint Israeli-U.S. intelligence operation set up in Washington, D.C. in 1997 as a hit squad for the neoconservative warmongers around Dick Cheney and the Bush apparatus. It was co-founded by “retired” Israeli intelligence official Yigal Carmon (a former “Terror Against Terror” advisor to Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir), and Meyrav Wurmser, wife of the Jabotinsky-ite, Senior Advisor to Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security David Wurmser. Mrs. Wurmser is a piece of work in her own right, like her husband, involved in drafting the notorious war plan for the Middle East, “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm.” (See EIR’s archive for further background on the MEMRI and the Wurmsers duo.)
Stalinsky slanders Dearborn—an ethnically-diverse city of some 110,000 Americans of European, Middle Eastern and “North African” heritage (as the 2020 census classifies people) which is home to one of the largest Arab-American communities in the United States—calling it “a recruiting area and potential support base” for perhaps as many as over two dozen “State Department-identified terror groups,” full of jihadi terrorist “sleeper cells,” so infested that “many current or one-time Dearborn residents have been convicted of terror-related crimes in recent years!”
