Egypt to Stay with Peace Treaty with Israel, If Israel Abides By It

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hastened to assure the world yesterday that Egypt would adhere to the 1979 peace treaty with Israel — as long as it remains reciprocal. This clarified earlier media reports based on anonymous sources that Egypt was threatening to suspend the treaty if Israel expanded its war into Gaza. He stressed that Egypt has upheld its peace treaty with Israel for the past 40 years, serving as the foundation for diplomatic relations between the two nations.
