Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed Venezuela joining the BRICS at his Feb. 20 meeting in Caracas with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. According to TASS, Lavrov said that “we know that our Venezuelan friends are interested in closer ties with BRICS and Russia will facilitate the process as the group’s chair this year.” Maduro for his part told Venezuelan TV:
