Mossad chief David Barnea presented to the Israeli war cabinet a proposal for a 35-day truce with Hamas in exchange for the release of 35 Israeli hostages, Israel’s Channel 12 reported. The number of Palestinian prisoners to be released remains to be negotiated. As many as 136 hostages are still being held by Hamas in Gaza, Channel 12 said, according to TASS.
Ynet reports that the list presented by Hamas, of Palestinian prisoners they are demanding be released, includes Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti from Israeli prison. Although serving five life sentences, he is widely considered the preferred candidate to lead the Palestinian National Authority, replacing Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas.
