The Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb, or GLSDB, has completed testing and is set to arrive in Ukraine this week, if it has not already. The new bomb “is expected to be “a significant capability for Ukraine,” one of two U.S. officials told Politico on Jan. 30. “It gives them a deeper strike capability they haven’t had, it complements their long-range fire arsenal,” the U.S. official said. “It’s just an extra arrow in the quiver that’s gonna allow them to do more.”
The GLSDB, with an advertised range of 150 km, is nothing more than the Small Diameter bomb with a rocket motor attached to it. The SDB was a product of Secretary of Defense (2001-2006) Donald Rumsfeld’s failed Revolution in Military Affairs and the U.S. Air Force has been dropping them on poor countries ever since. Boeing and SAAB came up with the GLSDB in 2019, but neither government bought it. The U.S. promised the GLSDB to Ukraine almost a year ago, but the Pentagon demanded that it be extensively tested by the U.S. Army before being shipped to Ukraine. That testing has apparently been completed, and now it’s ready for delivery to the Kiev regime.
