At least 15-20 Israeli soldiers have been hospitalized with at least one or more unknown fungal infections. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) is apparently avoiding mention of the situation, possibly because it is an everyday reality now for the Palestinians of Gaza.
However, the news of the death of Israeli Staff Sgt. (res.) Hanan Drori, 26, from a fungal infection, reached the attention of the media, due to his family’s outreach efforts to secure experimental drugs for his treatment at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv. (One was Pfizer’s Fosmanogepiz, another was obtained from Ireland.) The IDF confirmed the death, but did not mention the cause of death.
