March 23, 2024 (EIRNS)—The Annual meeting of the China Development Forum (CDF) will be held on March 24-25 in Beijing, followed by the Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan on March 26-29 and also the Invest in China Forum on March 26 in Beijing. The Chinese press coverage portrays this as evidence that the “China is failing” hype coming from the West is nonsense. The big-wigs in China for these events include Tim Cook of Apple, who is spending over a week there, Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone, Ken Griffin of Citadel, and Noel Quinn of HSBC, according to the Wall Street Journal. Visa, Mercedes Benz, Eli Lilly and HP CEOs are also in China for the events, as is Craig Allen, president of the U.S.-China Business Council.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang will deliver a keynote speech at the CDF annual meeting, which is expected to draw more than 110 foreign guests, including leaders of the World Bank and the IMF, corporate executives and scholars, the Forum announced on March 22.
Global Times characterizes the blitz as follows: “While Western officials and media outlets have recently stepped up their campaign to smear China’s economy and its business environment, visits by a stream of prominent global business leaders to China, including those from Europe and the U.S., underscore solid global confidence in China’s investment prospects.”
