March 4, 2024 (EIRNS)—The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), made up of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the U.A.E., Qatar and Oman, urged for a ceasefire in Gaza during their 159th ministerial meeting in Riyadh, yesterday. GCC foreign ministers also held separate discussions in Riyadh with their counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.

The meetings “discussed the serious developments in Gaza Strip and the city of Rafah, the military escalation against unarmed civilians, and the importance of an immediate ceasefire to ensure the return of security and stability to Gaza Strip,” reported Al Arabiya, citing the Saudi Press Agency. “Participants also discussed joint action to create conditions to arrive at a comprehensive and just peace in a way that preserves the rights of the Palestinian people, and establishes a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” SPA added.
