Heavy Russian Strikes in Ukraine, AFU Strikes in Belgorod

March 24, 2024 (EIRNS)—The Russian military launched waves of missile strikes against Ukraine, including the capital, Saturday night, March 23, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) sent missile strikes against the bordering Russian region of Belgorod, against the city of Sevastopol, and against an oil refinery in the Samar region. There were fatalities in both countries. The Russian military said it had driven Ukraine’s forces out of the town of Ivanivske, west of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, in what France24 described as a “series of recent Russian ground advances.”

One Russian cruise missile traversed a Polish border region for about one minute, according to Polish authorities, who said that Polish air defenses were activated but not used. Poland lodged a protest with the Russian Consul General.

According to posts on the Intel Slava Z Telegram channel, which describes itself as “a Russian News aggregator,” explosions were heard in Lvov, the Ivano-Frankivsk region, and other regions around Ukraine overnight March 23-24. Kinzhal missiles were said to be used in some of these strikes but that has not been confirmed.
