Hungary Throws a Monkey Wrench Into NATO Chief Selection

March 8, 2024 (EIRNS)—Hungary has expressed strong opposition to the choice of Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte to become the next NATO Secretary General. Hungary had a run-in with Rutte in the EU, where Rutte opposed Hungarian legislation that banned showing LGBT material to young people. Rutte said that “Hungary should be brought to their knees” by the EU on this issue. The Hungarians have not forgotten those comments.
