March 31, 2024 (EIRNS)—In response to a question about U.S. aid to Gaza, Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) told a March 25 meeting with constituents: “We shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid. It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick.”
Although only Walberg’s voice, and not his image, appears in the video, which was made public on March 29, he readily admitted that he had said that, but tried to justify it as “a metaphor”: “As a child who grew up in the Cold War Era, the last thing I’d advocate for would be the use of nuclear weapons. In a shortened clip, I used a metaphor to convey the need for both Israel and Ukraine to win their wars as swiftly as possible.”
