March 20, 2024 (EIRNS)—Pope Francis has once again passionately called for negotiations to end wars, in his Wednesday general audience today.
Due to his persistent respiratory illness, he ended by only speaking the Italian greetings and used the opportunity to again demand negotiations to end wars: “Let us never forget that war is always a defeat.”
Since March 19 was the Solemnity of St. Joseph, the patron saint of the universal church, the Pope stressed: “To St. Joseph we also commend the peoples of martyred Ukraine and the Holy Land, Palestine and Israel, who suffer so much from the horrors of war. And let us never forget: War is always a defeat! You cannot move forward in war. We must make every effort to negotiate, to negotiate, to end the war. Let us pray for this.”
The Pope “sticks to his guns.” His Holiness remarks were prominently reported in the German Vatican News edition.
